Photography Minor

The Photography Minor teaches students the theory and practice of creating digital photographs.  Through a series of Art and Communications courses, students learn the technical skills needed to capture, edit, and print professional-level photographs.  Hands-on experiences allow students to explore their creativity and learn to communicate through visual story telling.  After the successful completion of the minor, students will be able to do the following:

  • Create a photographic portfolio;
  • Engage in the creative process as a means for solving problems;
  • Apply knowledge of composition, visual communication, and contemporary trends and theories in photography;
  • Use appropriately digital SLR cameras, lenses and equipment;
  • Acquire basic photo manipulation and formatting skills using the Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Print, mount, and present work in a professional context;
  • Work and study independently.
