Writing and Publishing B.A.

The Writing and Publishing major familiarizes students with the demands, complexities, and highlights of the writers’ world through classroom-based and off-campus investigation. It offers students the chance to get the most relevant and significant experience needed for a career in the ever-changing world of publishing.  The Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Publishing requires two semesters of the same foreign language.

Upon satisfactory completion of this major leading to graduation, the student will have:

  • improved in basic writing skills;
  • experienced writing in a wide range of genres;
  • learned how to write for different audiences;
  • gained first-hand experience editing other writers’ work;
  • learned about the history and processes of publishing, including recent changes in the industry;
  • leaned about markets for various types of writing;
  • gained experience in submitting material for publication;
  • studied literature and come to appreciate the relationship between reading widely and growth as a writer;
  • learned about the nature of language and the history and diversity of the English language;
  • explored career opportunities for writers.

Core Curriculum:


In addition, all students must fulfill the college’s core curriculum  requirements and meet the 128 credit graduation requirement.  The First Year Experience (FYE) Seminar  is a requirement for all first-year students.

Note:


 Highly recommended electives:  EH 403 English Intern program and writing courses offered within the Communications Department.
