Masters of Science in Education - Catholic School Leadership Concentration

The Catholic School Leadership concentration focuses on the uniqueness of the principal being the spiritual leader of the educational unit. This concentration is intended for both teachers and administrators interested in initiating or enhancing a career in educational administration. The purpose of this concentration is to enable participants to acquire the knowledge and techniques necessary for exemplary educational management and school leadership. In general, this goal is reached in the courses by students’ assimilating the results of scholarly research, course texts, discussion board postings of peers, course notes, and interaction with instructors on educational management and school leadership.
Students in the M.S.Ed Catholic School Leadership concentration will:
- actualize the uniqueness and importance of Catholic identity and spirituality within the Catholic school setting; be aware of different supervisory management methods; and be able to use goal-setting, feedback, reinforcement, and delegation to enhance both satisfaction and efficiency;
- have appropriate knowledge of the legal and financial requirements and options of various administrative positions as well as the ethical issues potentially involved with them;
- appreciate the advantages and drawbacks of different leadership styles and the conditions which are favorable or unfavorable to them; and
- be familiar with organizational planning and development models and how individuals’ development goals may be matched with the organization’s.
