Fast Track to Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology

The undergraduate Fast Track to Masters in Pastoral Theology allows undergraduate students majoring in Theological Studies to substitute up to two designated graduate courses from the Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology program in lieu of two comparable undergraduate courses in Theological Studies. The credit and curriculum requirements in the Masters of Arts in Pastoral Theology programs for these two graduate courses are then waived when the student enters the graduate program.

Requirements for Admission to the Fast Track to Master in Pastoral Theology

Qualified undergraduate students majoring in Theological Studies who have completed the following five required courses and three further elective courses are eligible for the Fast Track.

  • TH 101 - Introduction to Catholic Doctrine and Theology
  • TH 102 - Introduction to the New Testament
  • TH 104 - Introduction to the Old Testament
  • TH 311 - Church History I: Ancient and Medieval Church
  • TH 312 - Church History II: The Development of Modern Catholicism

After being admitted to the Fast Track, students take two courses from the following list of courses:

  • TH 505 - Foundations of Moral Theology in place of TH 220 Fundamentals of Moral Theology
  • TH 511 – Foundations of Catholic Spirituality in place of TH 211 Foundations of Catholic Spirituality
  • TH 530 - Christology in place of TH 330 Christology
  • TH 545 – Theology of Ecumenism in place of TH 315 Theology of Ecumenism
  • TH 582 – Theology of the Body in place of TH 340 Theology of the Body
  • TH 586 – Theology of the Liturgy in place of TH 226 Liturgy and Sacraments
  • TH 580 - Theology of the Sacraments in place of TH 226 Liturgy  and Sacraments

Additional Admission Requirements


Fast track students must have also completed the required English course before taking the two graduate courses.  Of course, the students must meet all the other remaining requirements for the undergraduate degree.

Minimum Grade


To be eligible for admission to the Fast Track, students must have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0.

Graduation


The Pastoral Theology courses simply substitute for the undergraduate courses, so students graduate with a BA in Theological Studies upon completing all requirements.  They then enroll in Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology with the two graduate course already taken
