NU 315 - Nursing Care of Children (SR)


This course guides the student in the application of the nursing process to meet the nursing care needs of children and childrearing families, in health maintenance and the management of acute and chronic health problems.

This is a Sustainability-Related (SR)  course.

NU 216 and NU 212

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to do the following: 

  • Assume accountability for personal and professional behaviors. (BSN Essential VIII).
  • Demonstrate professionalism, including attention to appearance, demeanor, respect for self and others, and attention to professional boundaries with patients and families as well as among caregivers. (BSN Essential VIII).
  • Identify personal, professional, and environmental risks that impact personal and professional choices and behaviors (BSN Essential VIII).
  • Act to prevent unsafe, illegal, or unethical care practices (BSN Essential VIII).
  • Conduct comprehensive and focused physical, behavioral, psychological, spiritual, socioeconomic, and environmental assessments of health and illness parameters in patients, using developmentally and culturally appropriate approaches (BSN Essential IX).
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered, evidence-based care that respects patient and family preferences (BSN Essential IX).
  • Monitor client outcomes to evaluate the effectiveness of psychobiological interventions (BSN Essential IX).
  • Uses inter- and intraprofessional communication and collaborative skills to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care (BSN Essential VI).
  • Demonstrate appropriate teambuilding and collaborative strategies when working with interprofessional teams (BSN Essential VI).
  • Revise the plan of care based on an ongoing evaluation of patient outcomes (BSN Essential IX).
  • Integrate evidence, clinical judgment, interprofessional perspectives, and patient preferences in planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes of care (BSN Essential III).
