• Summarize historical developments of the Catholic Liturgy with special attention to a) the Eucharist, b) early Christian practices, and c) pre- and post-Vatican II developments. 
• Analyze, interpret, and identify theological themes within liturgical prayers and texts with special emphasis on the Eucharistic prayers. 
• Restate and reason with the rationale for liturgical reform as given in the Vatican II Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, with an emphasis on the ability to explain how the document offers fundamental norms for liturgical practice in contemporary Catholic churches. 
• Observe, evaluate, and report on at least one liturgical event at a church one does not normally attend on the basis of sound theology. 
• Prepare an essay on one aspect of liturgy using scholarly sources, proper citations, and offering analysis, interpretation, summary, explanation, evaluation, or critique on the basis of sound theology.
