HA 700 - Strategic Planning and Management


Progresses beyond the analysis of strategic planning processes. Explores how an organizations strategic plans can be implemented most effectively to promote success in an uncertain and often turbulent health care environment. Conceptual and descriptive approaches are utilized to provide an overview of current practices and notable advances in strategic management.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Understand the impact a turbulent environment has upon planning and implementing programs in health care.
  • Synthesize, from a set of conceptual tools, how to most effectively manage the uncertainty of the future.
  • Effectively utilize data as a source of information for planning, implementation, and control.
  • Develop and utilize tools for internal and external environmental assessments.
  • Develop strategic planning models and apply them to the work setting.
  • Distinguish between strategic and operations planning and management, and learn how the two interface to establish and maintain a successful organization.
