Bachelors of Science, Long-Term Care Administration (BSLTC)

This Bachelor of Science, Long-Term Care Administration program provides students with professional education in the field of long-term care administration. It includes a combination of courses in general management, health administration and long-term care administration designed to prepare students for positions throughout the long-term care industry. The major includes a specialization in two prominent segments of the long-term care industry – nursing home administration and assisted living administration – preparing students for employment, promotion, or licensure within those areas.

In addition to the required general education courses and the major courses required, students must complete 36 credits of general education electives.  The major consists of 120 semester-hour credits. 

Completing this degree program will enable you to:

  • Analyze care, services and supports including measures of quality of life and ancillary services in long term care. (2022 NAB Domain 1: Care, Services and Supports)
  • Conduct operations planning including budgeting and forecasting, risk management and human resources. (2022 NAB Domain 2: Operations)
  • Analyze environmental factors in long term care including federal and state regulatory compliance, preventive and routine maintenance, disaster and emergency planning, information management and infection control. (2022 NAB Domain 3: Environment and Quality)
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in organizational behavior, team building, change management, ethics, strategic planning, business planning and development and public relations. (2022 NAB Domain 4: Leadership and Strategy)

The Fast Track to Master of Health Administration  degree option is available.

Students must check with their state licensing board to ensure the courses offered will meet their state requirements.

Core Curriculum:


In addition, all students must fulfill the college’s Core Curriculum  requirements and meet the 120 credit graduation requirement.

Specializations


After completing all Core Requirements, students take one of the two following specializations, which build on knowledge gained through earlier courses in the program, and apply that knowledge to specific areas of long-term care administration through practicum courses. The number of credits required varies by specialization depending on practicum requirements.

Nursing Home Administration Specialization (6 or 9 credits):


Prepares students for licensure as nursing home administrators and has been approved by the National Association of Boards of Examiners for Long-Term Care Administrators (NAB).

Assisted Living Administration Specialization (6 or 9 credits):


Prepares students for administration of assisted living facilities.

General Elective Courses


Additional courses (electives) to complete the required 120 semester-hour credits may be selected from any of the course offerings described in the catalog.
