The English major further develops students’ writing, critical reasoning, and interpretive and research skills. The major features a rich and varied curriculum rooted in the classics yet reflective of the changing world. The Bachelor of Arts in English requires two semesters of the same foreign language.
Upon satisfactory completion of this major leading to graduation, the student will:
- have developed good communication skills, revealed in both writing and speaking;
- have learned to appreciate, analyze, and interpret literature, including its purpose, method, and ethic/moral dimensions
- possess knowledge of canonical and non-canonical world literature
- be able to conduct literary research using a variety of critical perspectives
- have developed the creative imagination
- have deepened intellectual, spiritual, and aesthetic life through creative interaction with both classical and contemporary literature
