ED 580HC - Professional Internship, Health Care Educator This field based graduate-level professional internship provides students with a comprehensive, hands-on experience in the field of health care education. Over a 16-week period, students will engage in the practical application of health education principles and theories within an active healthcare setting. Under the guidance of an experienced on-site mentor and a college supervisor, interns will actively participate in the full spectrum of health education activities, from needs assessment and program development to implementation and evaluation. This experiential learning opportunity is designed to cultivate essential professional competencies, enhance critical thinking skills, and foster a deep understanding of the role of a health care educator in promoting health and well-being. Students will be expected to take initiative, collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, and reflect critically on their experiences to achieve the specified learning outcomes.
Students should contact their advisor early to begin the application process for this course. A completed application is due to the Program Director, no later than 2 weeks before the scheduled term that the student would like to enroll in their internship and will include a signed approval by the student’s mentor.
Prerequisites & Notes This is the capstone course for the MSED in the Healthcare Educator program. All required courses must be completed before enrolling in the culminating internship experience or by permission of the Program Director.
