TH 531 - Epistles and Revelation


The Epistles and Revelation of John examines the Epistles and Revelation of John of the New Testament by incorporating the following: 1) the Catholic Church’s teaching on Sacred Scripture, including its relation to Christ, the Church, and our personal lives; 2) implementation of the historical and historical-critical methods of interpretation; and 3) the Old Testament and historical context of the Epistles and Revelation of John.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Discuss the Catholic Church’s teaching on Sacred Scripture, including its relation to Christ, the Church, and our personal lives.
  • Implement the historical and historical-critical methods of interpretation of Scripture.
  • Interpret the Old Testament and historical context of the NT Epistles and Revelation of John, and the relationship in today’s culture and context.
  • More proficiently interpret the Epistles and Revelation of John through the lenses of Dei Verbum and other encyclicals from the Second Vatican Council.
  • Analyze the development of the book of Revelation as the final book of the New Testament with the Gospel of John and the relationship between the two books.
