TH 204 - Moral Law and the 10 Commandments


The course examines the Moral Law given to us in the Ten Commandments. It focuses on how we can best follow the Ten Commandments with good decision-making, as well as identifying violations to the Ten Commandments as a result of our choices. We explore moral dilemmas facing the human condition, such as life and death, personal sins, and maltreatment of others, all with a focus on what the Catholic Church teaches and stands for in relation to these issues.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize the Commandments, Precepts, and Beatitudes, by providing examples of the application of the Commandments and Beatitudes in conjunction with the Precepts of the Catholic Church.
  • Explain the good of each of the Ten Commandments.
  • Apply each Commandment in judging the morality of various actions, as either good or evil.
  • Describe how the ten commandments are the basis for moral law and are the tenets of the Catholic faith.
  • Examine scriptural passages in the New Testament that clarify how Jesus came to not abolish the law but to fulfill the law.
