ED 527 - AI Ethical Considerations and Educational Explorations


This course examines the affordances of Artificial Intelligence tools applied to teaching and learning. The content of the course focuses on the ethical implications and practical applications of AI in PK-12 educational settings. Students will gain a foundational knowledge of key concepts, terminology, types of Artificial Intelligence, and critically analyze ethical issues related to AI in education. Topics will include the exploration and evaluation of AI tools, the ethical dilemmas presented by AI in the classroom, the opportunity for extending differentiated instruction, and the design of strategies for responsible AI integration in teaching and learning.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Identify major terms and practical applications for Generative AI Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Learning. 
  • Examine the ethics and evolving standards of practice for using Artificial Intelligence tools with students and other educational stakeholders.
  • Plan and Design an inquiry project focused on strategies for responsible, ethical and developmentally appropriate integration of AI in teaching and learning.
  • Evaluate and Analyze applications for Artificial Intelligence Software Tools.
  • Demonstrate ways that AI tools can be used to differentiate and enrich teaching and learning.
  • Examine the design of strategies for responsible AI integration in teaching and learning.
  • Reflect upon the affordances of Generative AI and the ethical considerations involved in integrating AI in educational setting(s).
