NP 630 - Adult Gerontological Primary Care NP Theory


Explore the theories and practice of advanced practice nursing and health care planning and delivery to adolescents and young adults considering diverse populations in concordance with nationally recognized AGPCNP competencies. Course content includes developmental, physiological, pathological, and psychosocial changes relative to health maintenance, acute and stable chronic illnesses and life transitions. The role of the nurse practitioner is explored to include the practitioner as educator, leader and provider.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Uses ethical principles when making decisions based on the patient visit. 
  • Discuss health care of adolescents and young adults incorporating ethical, legal, cultural, economic, political and psychosocial principles.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective oral and written communication with adolescents, young adults, their families, and other health care professionals.
  • Integrates teaching and learning principles and environmental data in providing culturally humble care and developing the role of AGPCNP as health educator.
  • Illustrate the elements of developmentally appropriate comprehensive and focused health histories and physical examinations for adolescents and young adults.
  • Use current research related to diagnostic and treatment protocols to improve the delivery of health care to adolescents and young adults.
  • Interpret the effectiveness of interventions and care management strategies in improving the health status of individuals.
  • Use the principles of human growth and development in the assessment, plan and treatment of adolescents and young adults.
  • Apply research, adaptation and related theories to develop management plans for health promotion, disease prevention, and stable chronic illnesses for adolescents and young adults.
