TH 318 - Theology of the Church


This course introduces basic doctrines regarding the identity of the Church and her mission in the modern world, as well as how the Church acts pastorally, and the importance of the Eucharist as the source and summit of the Catholic faith. Topics range from the Church in God’s plan, to how the Church assists man on the journey we call life. This course also offers the student the opportunity to perform a mini practicum, enabling the student to be the hands and feet of Christ in service of others.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the role of the Church in God’s plan for salvation, and how “unity” and “mission” play a role in salvation.
  • Explain the four marks of the Church.
  • Describe the hierarchical structure of the Church.
  • Explain the role of Mary and the saints in the life of the Church.
  • Describe the role of the Church in the modern world.
  • Elaborate on the power and manifestation of the Eucharist found within Christ’s Eucharistic Church.
