MB 510 - Financial Principles and Policy


This course addresses the fundamental principles of financial management for all types of business including financial statement analysis, valuation, capital budgeting, cost of capital, debt and equity financing, risk management, investment analysis, and policies related to financial management.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following: 

  • Interpret financial statements including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements to assess the financial health of an organization.
  • Evaluate and create capital and operational budgets/cash flow technique for a business organization and identify the costs of capital.
  • Apply principles of financial policy to standardize processes and mitigate financial risk.
  • Assess the cost of debt, equity financing and the cost of capital.
  • Conduct investment analysis and calculate critical financial ratios for valuation of a company.
  • Reflect on ethical concerns in corporate finance.
