ED 555 - Measurement and Evaluation


This course is designed for classroom teachers, aspiring teachers, and school personnel who are involved in the process of assessment and evaluation.  Students will examine and reflect upon the kinds of  evaluations they employ and will develop formative assessment techniques and plans that involve students and/or staff.  Students will practice analyzing data that is generated by using a variety of approaches to measurement and assessment tools. Topics to be included are differentiated assessment, AI tools, formative and summative assessments, varying models of cyclical assessment and the analysis of assessment data and learner artifacts.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Critically reflect on assessment and evaluation practices.
  • Develop a Measurement and Evaluation Plan for a unit of study, informed by research, and based on standards, learning targets,developmentally appropriate content/audience and learning environment.   
  • Select measurement and evaluation methods that match the purpose of the targets and allow students to demonstrate what they know and are able to do in a variety of ways.
  • Create formative assessment strategies that enhance learning  and guide instruction.
  • Develop differentiated measurement and evaluation techniques to involve students in their own process of learning and assessment.
  • Utilize AI tools to support the design, individualization, evaluation and analysis of assessment data.
