ED 535 - Organizational Theory, Planning, and Change Management


This course provides an analysis of educational organizations as systems of interrelated parts, influencing and being influenced by other systems. Students will examine both internal and external constituencies in evaluating models of planning and processes which include data selection, analysis of stakeholder inputs, uses and  usefulness of future projections, flexible and appropriate workflows, techniques most suitable to addressing different types of problems and approaches to creative change management.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following: 

  • Identify and discuss historically representative and currently applied organizational theories and models.
  • Examine how organizational structure can help and/or hinder institutional and/or individual behavior.
  • Apply an organizational theory into practice by developing a personal plan of action.
  • Describe and practice the application of principles, techniques, and digital project management tools used in strategic planning.
  • Analyze a leader’s role in organizational planning, change management, and an institutional, district, or school improvement process.
