ED 531 - Supervision, Evaluation and Professional Development for Educational Personnel


This course focuses on general supervisory strategies and differentiated evaluation processes as they may be used in educational environments. Goal-setting, feedback, consistent support, collaborative approaches and continual improvement toward performance appraisals of school personnel are examined, reflected upon, and discussed.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following: 

  • Identify and describe the systemic, connected role of human resources, supervision, evaluation and professional development  in an educational organization.
  • Examine the standards of practice and design a plan that could be used to support differentiated supervision.
  • Design a professional development needs assessment and identify potential training opportunities to meet the growth needs identified.
  • Discuss current educational supervisory practices related to  diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrate several ways that  staff professional growth can  be connected to effective school improvement plans.
  • Examine tools for employee performance assessment.
  • Analyze supervisory and  leadership approaches that promote goal setting, critique and growth.
  • Describe the role that school climate plays in promoting well-being of educational personnel and its influence on innovation, creativity, student outcomes.
