Purpose and Program Objectives

The Leadership Master of Business Administration (MBA) prepares students to provide leadership in business organizations, and not to simply provide administrative oversight. Given its leadership focus, this graduate business program prepares students to be both technically competent and interpersonally skillful. The curriculum prepares future business managers to be leaders by deepening their understanding of the interplay of the quantitative (i.e. revenue, profit, costs) and qualitative (meaning, relationships, values) in business organizations. Accordingly, in this program, ethics is as important as economics, psychology as important as finance, communication as important as commerce, team performance is as important as individual performance, and quality as important as quantity.

Graduates of this program will:

  • Gain the necessary knowledge and skills to develop productive relationships (individual to individual, individual to organization, organization to society) and to positively and productively influence others;
  • Be technically competent and interpersonally skillful;
  • Develop an understanding of the influence of culture on both individual and organizational performance;
  • Influence, collaborate and provide creative solutions for organizations;
  • Be leaders of people and managers of organizational systems.

Curriculum

This Leadership MBA program reflects the fact that the conduct of business is a social or interpersonal endeavor that it happens between people. Good leadership is not just about overseeing the many aspects of or transactions in business, it is also about understanding their interpersonal nature. Specifically, leadership has to do with the qualitative (e.g. the personal & interpersonal, teambuilding, ethics, quality and transformation/change), as well as the quantitative and measurable (e.g. profit, costs, and market share).

Candidates must satisfactorily complete 42 graduate credits, with an overall GPA of Saint Joseph’s College courses of 3.0 or higher. This consists of eight core courses and six electives. Internet access is required for all courses. Some courses are still under development in this program. Call the College for details and the latest course offerings.

Additional Admission Requirements

Students must submit a 750-word essay that reflects critical analysis of one’s self, educational experience, work experience and career aspirations.  The essay must present a synthesis of the analysis and present a clear, concise, coherent and logical argument establishing the degree of fit with the Leadership MBA program. As support and documentation, students must also submit their resume with this essay.

Prerequisites

Matriculants in the Leadership MBA program must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited academic institution, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Students are also required to have at least two years of business experience.
