Human Services Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Undergraduate Departments & Programs

The Human Services minor is designed for students who are interested in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to work with underrepresented populations who have varying needs. The minor (which is balanced with social work and psychology) teaches engagement, assessment, advocacy, and intervention skills. The Human Services minor begins to prepare individuals for the rewarding career of making a difference in the lives of others. This minor may be very complementary to the Business minor, Health Administration minor, Long Term Care Administration minor and/or a variety of other programs. Students will complete an internship of approximately 100 hours providing the minors an opportunity to “get their feet wet” in a population or setting in which they are interested.

Outcomes:

  1. Students will identify the basic components and theories of human development at the individual, family, group, organizational, and community levels.
  2. Students will analyze the structure and landscape of the human services delivery system and identify existing barriers to care.
  3. Students will apply their knowledge in community-based internships within the human services field.
