Saint Joseph’s College of Maine discloses that Bachelor of Science in Long-Term Care and Master of Health Administration are accredited by NAB and these programs will fulfill most state/territory educational requirements for nursing home licenses.
Some state licensing boards require additional requirements beyond bachelor or master level programs, which may include (but are not limited to): additional post-graduation examinations or experience, administrator in training (AIT) course, application and licensing fees, criminal background checks, reference checks, fingerprint submissions, etc. Continuing education may also be required for maintenance of certification/licensure. Make sure you understand and review any additional requirements prior to enrolling in the Bachelor of Science Long-Term Care and Master of Health Administration programs.
Some state licensing boards view Certificates and Continuing Education (CE) courses differently. The state may require a bachelor degree or master degree in a related field or non-related field along with a Certificate program or Continuing Education (CE) courses that meet the NAB domains, along with an administrator in training (AIT) course to meet all of the requirements for licensure in that state.
There are at least two states that provide their own education/training to be eligible for licensure in those states. These states are identified as “Does NOT Meets” on the table below. Please visit the individual state website to determine your next steps in licensure for that state and the impact of having additional education such as a bachelor degree or master degree.
State licensing requirements are always subject to change at the discretion of the state licensing board. The College will routinely update this page, but we strongly recommend you inquire with the applicable state board to confirm your eligibility for licensure prior to enrolling in the Bachelor of Science Long-Term Care or Master of Health Administration programs. For any questions regarding licensure, please contact the state/territory agency directly.
Licensing requirements vary by state/territory and relocating could impact whether you will meet eligibility requirements for licensure. For any questions about relocation eligibility, contact the agency where you desire licensure before relocating to ensure that you will be eligible for licensure or reciprocity.
Carefully review the educational prerequisites for your intended state/territory of licensure and whether our program meets those requirements for licensure. Use the agency contact information provided below to clarify or confirm any requirements.
If questions remain after reviewing the information provided below, contact your admission counselor. While the College can provide initial guidance, it is ultimately your responsibility to continually check with the state/territory where you intend to seek licensure to confirm all licensing/certification requirements.
The State Licensing Requirements should indicate whether the program curriculum Meets the requirements in these states and US Territories or Does NOT Meets them.
*If the program has yet to determine whether the curriculum requirements are met for these states and US Territories, it will be labeled as does not meet until further notice. Please contact your program advisor/director for more information.
