Photography Minor

The Photography minor is closed to new enrollments as of December 10, 2021 (The last day of the Fall semester).  Note:  All currently declared Photography minors will be able to complete the minor at SJC over the next four years.

The Photography Minor teaches students the theory and practice of creating digital photographs.  Through a series of Art and Communications courses, students learn the technical skills needed to capture, edit, and print professional-level photographs.  Hands-on experiences allow students to explore their creativity and learn to communicate through visual story telling.  After the successful completion of the minor, students will be able to do the following:

  • Create a photographic portfolio;
  • Engage in the creative process as a means for solving problems;
  • Apply knowledge of composition, visual communication, and contemporary trends and theories in photography;
  • Use appropriately digital SLR cameras, lenses and equipment;
  • Acquire basic photo manipulation and formatting skills using the Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Print, mount, and present work in a professional context;
  • Work and study independently.
