Post Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate

The Post Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate has a competitive admissions process.  Successful applicants will meet the following additional admissions criteria:

  • Applicants must be graduates of a Master of Science in Nursing degree, accredited at the time of graduation by CCNE or ACEN.
    • Master of Science in Nursing degree program must have been completed with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicants are required to hold an active, unrestricted RN license.  RNs are to provide their license number to Saint Joseph’s College for verification.

    Note: Applicants who have had license sanctions must be without restrictions during the two years prior to Saint Joseph’s application.

Curriculum


The Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate is a 28-credit post-graduate program designed to prepare RNs with an undergraduate and graduate degree in nursing for a career as a Family Nurse Practitioner. This certificate program prepares the graduate to sit for the national FNP certification exam. To ensure students have met various skills and role competencies, a minimum of 600 supervised clinical hours will be completed in the students geographical location. Only Nurse Practitioner specific courses are needed for post-MSN FNP certificate completion.

CCNE


The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) began accrediting post-master’s certificate programs January 2014. Programs are not eligible for review until their next schedule CCNE on-site evaluation. Saint Joseph’s College next on-site evaluation is scheduled for Fall 2019.
