HA 625 - Project Management for Nursing and Interprofessional Teams


This course will provide the framework, knowledge, and skills to successfully plan and implement quality improvement projects and assess their sustainability. The skills that the student will develop are a crucial part of the healthcare education process and ongoing healthcare project innovation such as, but not limited to, budget strategies, cost calculations, big data, and project sustainability. Also, this course will provide the foundation for students to navigate an initial idea from the planning phase to the execution and assessment phase in a healthcare organization allowing them to understand the importance and impact of interprofessional collaboration within healthcare today and address the systematic processes to complete a project on time and within budget.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completing this course, you should be able to do the following:

  1. Assess requisite skills and techniques of the project leader and designated team members in project management to ensure successful completion of the project including financial management, change management, data analytics, communication and strategic alignment to organization mission and vision.
  2. Examine the steps of developing, implementing, and managing a project from the original idea to planning, carrying out the project, studying the results, and acting on outcomes.
  3. Evaluate collaboration theory and management theory used in interprofessional education and project management.
  4. Conduct a mini mock needs assessment and/or quality improvement project for a healthcare organization and evaluate how evidence can be translated to practice.
