CH 119 - Nursing Foundation: Chemistry


In this course students will examine the principles of general and organic chemistry and how these principles apply to the human body.  Students will review topics such as acid/base balance, molecules and chemical reactoins in the body as well as end products of chemical reactoins.  Online lab activites will help to reinforce course content.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of thise course, the student will be able to:

  • Discuss chemical processes that occur in the body and how the processes impact overall body function.
  • Analyze the processes by which chemical reactions occur in the body and the resulting end products.
  • Discuss the building blocks for more complex organic compounds such as proteins, carbohydrates and lipids and the functoin of these compounds in the body.
  • Apply general and organic chemical concepts to experiential lab activities.
