NU 205 - Health Assessment


Using a holistic approach, this course guides the student to develop skills in health assessment of the adult.  Students learn interviewing, history taking, physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessment, as well as documenting data in an organized format using the electronic medical record.

Prerequisites: NU 105

Prerequisites or Corequisites: NU 211 and NU 215

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to do the following:

  • Conduct comprehensive and focused physical, behavioral, psychological, spiritual, socioeconomic, and environmental assessments of health and illness parameters in adult patients, using developmentally and culturally appropriate approaches. (BSN Essential, IX, #1).
  • Conduct a health history, including environmental exposure and a family history that recognizes genetic risks, to identify current and future health problems. (BSN Essential VII, #2).
  • Demonstrates the application of psychomotor skills for the efficient, safe, and compassionate delivery of patient care. (BSN Essential, IX, #16).
  • Demonstrate skills in using patient care technologies and online simulation (ATI) that support safe nursing practice. (BSN Essential IV, #1).
