SL 405 - Operations Management in Senior Living


A capstone course designed to help students apply the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier courses to the specific field of senior living leadership.  It covers such topics as operational management, financial management, marketing, human resources, gerontology, coordination of care, hospitality, and environmental management, dealing with those subjects in the context of senior living.

Prerequisites & Notes
All required core courses and specialization requirements must be completed before enrolling in this course, unless specifically approved by the Program Manager or Program Director.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Develop and apply sustainable financial management concepts for a senior living community.
  • Create a long-range plan for the physical plant of a senior living community with respect to changing needs, requirements, and expectations.
  • Provide stable, purposeful leadership by creating a vision and plan for the future.
  • Articulate and comply with applicable regulations that govern senior living communities.
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of a senior living community with an appropriate, diverse knowledge base.
