TH 315 - Theology of Ecumenism


The course explores the ecumenical movement, including the establishment of the World Council of Churches and the convening of the Second Vatican Council. It also explores the method of ecumenical dialogue.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Explain that Ecumenism is not a category of theology nor a bureaucratic task but a reconciling way of life for the Christian persona and for the Church.
  • Articulate the value of unity, dialogue, and respect as a gospel imperative and a goal worthy of our efforts.
  • Assess the divisions and wounds to the Christian community and their historic context.
  • Evaluate the opportunities and possibilities for reconciliation.
