TH 226 - The Sacraments


This course situates a study of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church within Sacred Tradition. The course specifically examines them through the lens of the Second Vatican Council’s renewed call to all the baptized to become holy and to witness to Christ in the world. It views the sacraments as personal encounters with the living God, allowing us to cultivate a relationship with Him and animating our engagement “in the world.”

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the Catholic sacramental and liturgical worldview.
  • Explain the Trinitarian and Christological aspects of the seven sacraments.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the ecclesiological aspects of the seven sacraments.
  • Explain the ecclesiological and sacramental worldview of Vatican II.
  • Apply knowledge of the sacraments and the call holiness for the baptized to the practical aspects of life as a witness to Christ in the world.
