HPS 104 - Modern Global History

Studies the development of world systems, civilizations and cultures from the Age of Exploration, c.1500 CE, to the present, with the aim of understanding both unique and inter-related historical developments, threats, and opportunities as they relate to an increasingly inter-connected world and its people. 

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Acquire and demonstrate understanding of the diversity and historical foundations of 21st century cultures, societies, religions, and belief systems. 
  • Identify and connect major historical movements and their effects on life in the early 21st century. 
  • Analyze experiences and situations outside your current and local frame of reference.
  • Correlate major historical themes with your own particular existence and lifestyles. 
  • Assess the impact of historical events on aspects of human status. 
  • Demonstrate how socially constructed notions, norms, and biases influence historical and current events.
