HE 111 - Personal Health and Wellness


Credits: 3

This course is designed to provide information needed to make important decisions about health, wellness and individual lifestyle. Topics related to health, including stress, drugs, physical fitness, nutrition, weight control, and mental health will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the student’s acquiring knowledge and assuming responsibility for one’s own health.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Investigate the wellness-illness continuum.
  • Explore contributing factors to health related attitudes and behaviors such as family of origin beliefs and configuration, socioeconomic status, work-life balance, cultural influences and health challenges such as disabilities and chronic illnesses.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the components of optimal health and wellness from a holistic perspective.
  • Acquire information on which to base choices regarding one’s health and quality of life.
  • Develop a personal health profile.
  • Apply concepts learned in class to lifestyle choices.
  • Perform an Integrative Health and Wellness Assessment, research 3 evidence based practice interventions and implement for 10 weeks , then evaluate effectiveness in writing and through class presentations.
