ES 100 - Ecology and the Environmental Challenge (CBL-R) (SF)

Today’s students are tomorrow’s decision-makers. Independent of their ultimate careers, it will be their decisions that collectively decide the fate of our planet. This course will provide students with a solid foundation in earth system processes and past, current, and future environmental problems and solutions so that they are better equipped to make informed, environmentally responsible decisions.

This is both a Community-Based Learning - Required (CBL-R)  and Sustainability-Focused (SF)  course.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Define and practice the principles of science, the scientific method, and critical thinking.
  • Explain the function of ecosystems, and ecosystem services.
  • Identify factors that can lead to ecosystem dysfunction and public health threats.
  • Describe current environmental problems and identify their causes.
  • Discuss and develop solutions for environmental problems.
  • Recognize your own responsibilities for environmental stewardship.
