LS 300 - Community Concerns and Social Problems (CBL-R) (SF)

This is both a Community-Based Learning - Required (CBL-R)  and Sustainability-Focused (SF)  course.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Apply interdisciplinary frameworks with which to understand community concerns/social problems and how each shapes the perspective used to examine the issues.
• Explain and analyze the composite of complex factors which contribute to the phenomenon termed community concerns/social problems.
• Recognize the wide range of contemporary social problems affecting local, national and global communities.
• Examine their role as local community members and/or global citizens and leaders/professionals to work to reduce in some small way, the magnitude and scope of community concerns/social problems.
• Evaluate how community concerns/social problems and injustice impact persons as persons and not just “as numbers” through their engagement in experiential learning opportunities.
• Demonstrate their verbal and written communication skills through class participation, reflective practice, experiential learning activities and assignments.
