ED 360 - Literacy Methods: Reading (SR)


Credits: (4 credits)


Today’s students are tomorrow’s decision-makers, independent of their ultimate careers, it will be their decisions that collectively decide the fate of our planet.  This course examines principles, procedures and instructional materials used in the elementary reading instruction.  Emphasis is on methodology and the connections between theory and practice.

This is a Sustainability-Related (SR)   course.

Prerequisite/Corequisite

ED100, ED 110 (Foundations of Literacy), ED 210, ED 230 (Literacy Methods: Writing)

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to do the following:
 

  1. Apply reading instruction techniques and organizational strategies in curriculum planning.
  2. Identify and use reading achievement assessment methods and tools
  3. Integrate technology into reading instruction methods.
  4. Integrate strategies for teaching diverse students in reading instruction plans.
  5. Evaluate reading acquisition theories and their impact on instruction.


Frequency of Offering:

Once a year in the fall semester.
