NU 646 - Population-Focused Practicum


Application of skills in population-focused care and case management in a precepted experience. Students develop goals in collaboration with the faculty advisor and the designated preceptor. The expected outcomes for this practicum include a population-focused assessment of health needs, development, and implementation, to meet these needs in collaboration with other health care providers and the local community. Students will also demonstrate their ability to case manage for individual clients.

Assignment Overview
  • Final Assessment: Successful Completion of Practicum and Project Report
    • Practicum requirements include 135 hours that focus on the addressing the identified health needs of a population in a community setting. These are on and off-site practice experience hours that include review and application of evidence, such as through health teaching and public health interventions. This experience promotes each student’s population-focused nursing skills and contributes to an understanding of the role of providing health care and education for populations and groups.

  • Apply population-focused care principles in a clinical setting. 
  • Participate in collaborative problem-solving approach to providing care.
