Academic Advising

The Online Division at Saint Joseph’s College understands the many challenges that face distance learners. With that in mind, a very effective and comprehensive student support system has been developed with the working adult in mind. A major component of this support system is the Academic Advising Office. Every distance education student is automatically assigned an academic advisor upon enrollment. The advisor is there as their personal online connection to guide them through each course during their entire program of study. They provide academic advising on course content, degree and online program requirements, give direction on administrative policies and procedures, and provide motivational support through proactive contact via email, phone, and/or written communication. These full-time professional advisors work closely with online students in order to help them achieve their personal and professional educational goals.

Saint Joseph’s College is proud to assist the men and women who are currently serving in the military, select Reserve and National Guard personnel, and the veterans who have previously served in the armed forces in fulfilling their educational goals. We have served active duty military students through war and through peace.

Saint Joseph’s College is listed in the DANTES External Degree Catalog and participates in all SOC programs as a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC). Because of its membership and participation in SOC, courses completed through Saint Joseph’s College easily transfer to/from other SOC schools.

Saint Joseph’s College also participates in the following programs geared specifically to active military:

Certain military education programs, such as those listed above, may have different admissions criteria and procedures, and certain information contained in this catalog may not apply to students enrolled through these programs.

The Online Division also provides its programs to both active and reserve Montgomery G.I. Bill recipients, to post-Vietnam Era Veterans’ Educational Assistance Program (VEAP), and to post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 members. Distance learning courses are approved for veterans and eligible dependents by the Maine State Agency for Veterans’ Education and Training.

For information on benefits, contact the Veteran’s Administration at 888-442-4551 (toll-free) or www.gibill.va.gov. Students receiving VA benefits must maintain satisfactory progress in their distance education coursework. Satisfactory progress is measured by the submission of at least one assignment in each course at a minimum of every 60 days, beginning with the official start date of the course. VA students who do not maintain progress are in jeopardy of losing their benefits. VA students who complete their coursework early may be liable for repayment of any resulting overpayment.

Applicants with military service should send a copy of an AART SMART Transcript, a DD Form 295, or a DD Form 214 to Enrollment Services, Saint Joseph’s Online, for review for possible transfer credit.
