NU 611 - Advanced Practicum In Nursing Leadership


Students identify a specified problem or content area within the scope of nursing administrative practice in a selected health care setting. The course is designed by the student and instructor as an experience to facilitate application of theories and research related to the identified problem. Students prepare an in-depth exploration of a selected relevant topic which is presented in a major professional paper through enrollment in NU 801 or NU 802.

Assignment Overview
Final Assessment: Successful Completion of the Practicum and Project Report

Practicum requirements include 135 hours that focus on a nurse management problem in a health care setting, with the expectation that resolution and how that is achieved contribute to the capstone paper. These hours are on and off-site practice experiences that include review and application of relevant evidence and theories, along with analysis and its implications for the setting.

  • Apply management principles and theories in a clinical health-care setting. 
  • Implement a collaborative problem-solving approach for the project. 
  • Formulate and carry out a plan for resolving the identified problem.

  • Analyze the implications of the practicum project for the health-care facility. 
  • Demonstrate mastery of content learned in the graduate curricula.
