HA 511 - Leadership in Health Care Administration


Explores the competencies required of health care executives for organizational leadership. The course departs from a study of traditional operations management theories. It focuses instead on interrelationships of effective executive and organizational competencies, and how the two must interface within an often turbulent health care environment. A health care leadership competency model is introduced.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following

  • Explain why values are so important, investigate senior leader contributions, and evaluate the senior leaders in your experience.
  • Differentiate and discuss the key values that are so vital in creating leader effectiveness, the need for courage in implementing change, and evaluation of your own leadership skills.
  • Describe the contribution of teams, how values play an important role in teams, and learn to evaluate your team members.
  • Analyze health care leader competencies and why they matter.
  • Evaluate your own leadership strengths and weaknesses related to health care leader competencies and create a plan for leadership self-improvement.
