Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Graduate Departments & Programs

The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) is an innovative post-graduate certificate that allows students to take courses inside or outside of their profession and degree area.  By completing the program, graduates will be noted for their depth of knowledge and their commitment to learning beyond the master’s degree, and they may add the C.A.G.S. credentials to their name.

CAGS Compassionate Leadership & Sustainability: Students complete five graduate courses drawn from the Master of Business Administration curriculum that focuses on sustainability, organizations and leadership, plus the Capstone (CAG 600 - Interdisciplinary Capstone  or MB 605 - Strategic Management of the Sustainable Enterprise (SF) ).

Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) : Students choose five courses from any of Saint Joseph’s College’s graduate programs and complete the Capstone (CAG 600 - Interdisciplinary Capstone ) for a total of 18 credits.

About the Program

Compassionate leadership and sustainability are natural companions in SJC’s world view and as reflected in this post-graduate certificate program.

Compassionate Leadership

Donato Tramuto, compassionate leadership activist, author, first SJC Scholar-in-Residence and recipient of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine’s 2019 Honorary Doctorate of Public Service Degree has inspired our entire community to recognize our capacity to provide direction in this critical dimension of leadership. Dr. Tramuto’s most recent book, The Double Bottom Line: How Compassionate Leaders Captivate Hearts and Deliver Results, is required reading in the certificate’s Capstone Course.

Sustainability

Saint Joseph’s College has long been committed to the causes of sustainability and our responsibility to instill the same level of commitment in our students. Most of the courses received a sustainability designation , either Sustainability-Related (SR) or Sustainability-Focused (SF), through a program that conforms with the AASHE/STARS Standards (2.2) for which SJC earned a gold award (2022).
