International Business Minor

The International Business minor prepares students to manage, market, and negotiate in a global environment.  Through the study of the “value systems” of other cultures, students gain a framework for conducting business internationally.   Students are put in direct contact with foreign mentors, participate in international business simulations, learn how to write an international business plan, and in general learn how to incorporate the use of technology in international business. Students are prepared to work in small, medium, and large businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies as well as in international entrepreneurial endeavors.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Make sound international business decisions: Students will learn to apply core and advanced international business concepts, making sound and successful decisions for intra- and entrepreneurial situations. 
  • Act ethically in an international environment: Students will respond with the highest level of integrity and cultural understanding to the ethical issues that arise throughout the world.
  • Communicate effectively internationally: Students will confidently and respectfully communicate their opinions, vision, thoughts and ideas to a variety of international audiences using diverse and contemporary forms of written and oral communications that fit the audience’s cultural values.
  • Think critically in an international environment: Students will utilize their highly developed international critical thinking skills that they have acquired in the various international courses to solve complex business problems that will directly influence organizational performance.

Integration:

The faculty teaching the courses in the minor are committed to the Saint Joseph’s College mission and attempt to create an environment where students are challenged academically, socially, and spiritually as it applies to an international environment. The faculty use the College’s Core Values as the guidepost for enacting the College”s mission in a cross-cultural environment.  The Core Values of the College are:
