Writing and Publishing B.A.

The Writing and Publishing major familiarizes students with the demands, complexities, and highlights of the writer’s world through classroom-based and off-campus investigation. It offers students the opportunity to get the most relevant and significant experience needed for a career in the ever-changing world of publishing.  The Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Publishing requires two semesters of the same foreign language.

Upon satisfactory completion of the Writing and Publishing B.A., the student will be able to:

  • demonstrate good communication skills, revealed in both writing and speaking
  • produce a substantial number of works in a wide range of genres
  • write for a number of different audiences
  • effectively edit other writers’ work
  • define and discuss the history and processes of publishing, including recent changes in the industry
  • define and discuss markets for various types of writing
  • submit work for consideration for publication
  • define and discuss the relationship between reading widely and growth as a writer
  • analyze and interpret literature, including its purpose, method, and ethical/moral dimensions
  • define and discuss career opportunities for writers

Core Curriculum:


In addition, all students must fulfill the college’s core curriculum  requirements and meet the 120 credit graduation requirement.  The First Year Experience (FYE) Seminar  is a requirement for all first-year students.
