Sociology B.A.

Sociology, B.S. is closed to new majors. All currently declared students will be able to complete the major and finish their degree at SJC over the next four years.

The Sociology major provides students with an understanding of human society, social relationships, and group behavior. Students learn the field’s theoretical concepts, analytical skills, and research methods. Field experiences are an important feature of the major. Students majoring in sociology are also required to complete a 20-credit minor in another academic field. Additionally, the Sociology major requires two semesters of the same foreign language.

Students must obtain a C- or better in each course required for the major, minor and the concentration.

Completing this degree program students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge in their specific content areas.
  • Demonstrate the ability to articulate ideas both orally and in written form
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrate ethical practice and professionalism. 
  • Demonstrate awareness of global issues/affairs

 

Core Curriculum:


In addition, all students must fulfill the college’s core curriculum  requirements and meet the 120 credit graduation requirement.  The First Year Experience (FYE) Seminar  is a requirement for all first-year students.
