Environmental Studies B.A.

The Environmental Studies major incorporates the principles of biology, chemistry, calculus, ecology, and more. Much of the curriculum is field-based, with opportunities to earn credits through completely off-campus, immersive study. Additionally, this degree program requires two semesters of the same foreign language.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to explain environmental phenomena and concepts in oral, written, and visual formats that reflect standards and professionalism.
  • Students will understand and identify connections between human social/economic systems and natural ecosystems, and employ this understanding in problem-solving.
  • Students will be able to search and evaluate the scientific literature.
  • Students will be able to critically analyze and solve quantitative and conceptual questions.
  • Students will understand the application of the scientific method to answer hypothesis-driven questions.
  • Students will be able to interpret scientific data and datasets, and synthesize conceptual models accessible to a broad spectrum of stakeholder disciplines.

Core Curriculum:


In addition, all students must fulfill the college’s core curriculum  requirements and meet the 120 credit graduation requirement.  The First Year Experience (FYE) Seminar  is a requirement for all first-year students.
