Business Administration (BSBA)

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration meets the needs of those who wish to become effective managers of people, projects, and/or their own business. The curriculum has been developed by professionals with both business and academic expertise. Courses require students to apply what they have learned to a work setting and thus are able to immediately test their personal and professional skills. The program’s goal is to ensure that the graduate will have acquired the fundamental business skills to become an effective manager in either public or private institutions, in start up or establshied organizations.

The degree offers a highly flexible option for students with significant transfer potential (typically through articulation agreements) and specialty programs.

The program outcomes for the Business Administration degree include the abilities to:

  • Acquire various bodies of knowledge and competencies within specific areas of study or individual fields.
  • Demonstrate critical writing, thinking, calculating, and communication proficiencies.
  • Acquire broad areas of human knowledge to develop intellectual capacity and deepen insight within general fields of study.
  • Understand the foundation of ethical and professional standards including those specific to a field of study.
  • Develop a foundation for lifelong learning.
  • Obtain credential or degree needed to advance or enter professional career related to each field.

Credits

Students enrolled in the program must earn 128 semester-hour credits, 25% of which must be completed through Saint Joseph’s College. For for the most flexibility, students may enroll in the general business administration program to maximize transfer credit options.  For specialty areas, please see each major for any unique requirements.

Choose from 2 Options: General BSBA with a Flexible Focus, or, BSBA with a Speciality Focus (major)

There are two primary degree completion options that can be considered based on the best overall strategy (including transfer credit) for the individual applicant.

  1. Flexible Focus:  For the general degree option, students may transfer up to 30 general elective credits and 15 business elective credits. Scroll down the page to learn more about the requirements for this option.

  2. Speciality Focus:  When choosing the major option, students may transfer up to 21 general elective credits and 9 business elective credits for each of the areas of focus.  Please click on the links to learn more about each major:

Business Electives

  • The general degree option consists of 15 business elective credits.
  • The speciality focus degree options each consist of 9 business elective credits.

Graduate Degree Options

For those considering a graduate degree in business or accounting, please check out the following options.

Master of Accountancy (MAcc) 

Accepted students who have completed all of the prerequisite (undergraduate) or preparatory (post-bacheloreate) coursework and who elect to take two courses in each of the five ten week terms of the graduate program can complete the program in one year!

It is highly recommended that students taking courses in preparaton for their CPA exam and state licensure determine their state’s accounting coursework requirements to choose appropriate business electives.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Accepted students who elect to take two courses in each of the five ten week terms of the graduate program can complete the program in 18 months!

General Education Requirements 2017


Beginning July 1, 2017, new general education requirements (listed below) become effective for online, undergraduate students at Saint Joseph’s College.  The college’s general education curriculum is a set of courses that reflect the college’s vision of what it means to be an educated person.  It is the heart of our baccalaureate education, and provides the grounding for the student’s major course of study. The core curriculum supports key parts of the college’s mission: to encourage students to explore widely the arts and sciences while they also prepare to lead ethical and meaningful lives and to enhance students’ awareness of human dignity and the meaning of life.  Moreover, the general education curriculum supports several of SJC’s Institutional Learning Outcomes.  Specifically:

  • Identify and apply the ethical and moral dimensions of their particular field of study;
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in both written and oral formats;
  • Engage in responsible citizenship, social justice, and environmental stewardship;
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze and evaluate information from diverse sources and perspectives.

The new requirements consist of four learning themes: Foundations for College Level Thinking, The Human Condition and Human Story, Nature & Society, and Art, Creativity, and Self-Knowledge.  The online general education requirements are aligned with the on-campus core.  Note: Some academic programs have minor variations in general education requirements. Please talk to your Advisor or Admissions Counselor for more information.

Note:  Students interested in CPA licensure should determine their state’s accounting coursework requirements to in order to choose appropriate electives.
