Criminal Justice Major

The Criminal Justice major serves as the foundation for the Bachelor of Science in General Studies degree completion program. It offers individuals who work or aspire to work in law enforcement a well-rounded and values-based liberal education. The Associate of Science general education requirements are compatible for transfer in fulfillment of the Bachelor of Science general education requirements, as are the core Criminal Justice requirements.

General Education Requirements, AS


The Division of Graduate and Professional Studies offers eight majors leading to the Associate of Science degree. Each major has its own set of core course requirements that provide students with a quality education that enhances their professional skills. Most majors are designed specifically as foundations for specific Bachelor of Science degrees available through Saint Joseph’s College.

General Education Requirements


(24 semester-hour credits)

English Composition   6 credits 

Social Sciences 3 credits
Natural Sciences 3 credits
History 3 credits
Philosophy 3 credits
Theology 3 credits
Mathematics 3 credits

General Elective Courses


Additional courses (electives) to complete the 66 semester-hour credits may be selected from courses at the 100, 200, and 300 level.

Summer Program


Six semester-hour credits must be completed during a two-week residential session. Course offerings are announced prior to each residency session in a special summer catalog and include many choices not available through independent study.
