PH 208 - Philosophy and Human Experience


Credits: (4 credits)

Examines the range of concrete lived human experiences in contrast to the abstraction associated with philosophical investigation. Focus is on 19th and 20th century philosophy. Topics include alienation, religion, emotion, bureaucracy, community, identity, and selfdetermination. Thinkers reviewed include Schopenhauer, Marx, Darwin, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Freud, Dewey, Heidegger, and Camus. Examples from literature and film will be explored.
