ED 411 - Split Placement Student Teaching in Elementary and Special Education


Credits: 12

This split placement student teaching experience includes immersion in both the elementary and special education classroom settings. It is a full-time experience where you will spend up to eight (8) weeks in an elementary classroom and eight (8) weeks in a special education classroom creating and applying lesson plans, instructional strategies, student assessments and classroom management skills under the guidance of two cooperating teachers. This experience will allow you to develop the necessary competencies to become licensed in teaching both elementary and special education by actively participating in all aspects of classroom instruction, student assessment, and individualized education planning (IEP) while receiving ongoing feedback and mentorship from your cooperating teachers.

Prerequisite/Corequisite
  • Completed Student Teachin Application signed by the Chair of the Education Department.
  • Overall 3.5 GPA.
  • Recommendation by All Education Department Faculty.
  • The completion of all courses required for the major with a grade of B or higher.
  • Proof of fingerprinting.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
