BI 200 - Public Health in a Majority World Country I

Credits: 2

This first part of this two sequence course evaluates the causes of public health issues in developing communities and investigates strategies to address them. Topics covered in this course include an introduction to epidemiology, poverty and diet, environmental health, common diseases, financial security and access to healthcare, and current public health needs. These issues will be examined through the lens of a designated geographic region (i.e., Guatemala, Haiti, etc.) and students will become familiar with the ways in which its history shaped it into the community it is today.
