BA 404 - Internship Program


Credits: 4

This course will provide you with the opportunity to gain valuable insight into actual business operations so that you may better connect your academic experience with professional experience and reflect that on your resume.  This internship requires a position with a for-profit or non-profit organization that meets the general learning outcomes noted below.  The employer and student are required to read and sign a Memo of Understanding for the internship. The faculty advisor carefully supervises your responsibilities to ensure a positive experience and fulfillment of those outcomes.

Prerequisite/Corequisite
Prerequisites: Junior or Senior status, 2.5 GPA and permission of the Department Chair

Learning Outcomes
The learning objectives will vary depending upon the industry and area of study but may include a combination of the following:

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to do the following:

  • Apply knowledge and skills related to the concepts, principles, and methodologies of one’s major or discipline and liberal arts education thereby connecting theory to practice. 
  • Acquire new knowledge in a new professional setting to enhance the student’s  classroom education. 
  • Apply business skills acquired in the classroom, such as critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and complex problem solving, to “real world” situations. 
  • Verbally express ideas clearly and persuasively with clients, supervisors and colleagues. 
  • Express ideas clearly and persuasively in writing as evidenced by acceptable student accomplishment in all assignments required by an internship sponsor.
  • Increase skills for understanding and working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively within diverse work cultures and environments.
